When we were tasked with putting the work of prominent West Australian artist, Robert Juniper, onto an app, we knew how important it was to do it justice.
The State Library of Western Australia approached us to digitise this beautiful work into a tablet application on iOS and Android. This couldn’t be an ordinary app and the design had to pay respect to the history and culture behind the work, while allowing it to shine.
In 2013, the State Library proudly announced the acquisition of Robert Juniper’s illustrations. They were created for a children’s story, Mason Judy, written by Trevor Todd (who you can hear narrating the story on the app).
The storybook, published in 1977, “…documents a young boy’s journey as he is transported into the Dreamtime through his discovery of a magic stone. Along the way he meets a series of Aboriginal guides who encourage him to return the stone to its original location.”
It was an honour to work on such a significant part of West Australian history and to enable the amazing work to be accessible from anywhere in the world.
